Health Benefits Turmeric Powder Can Bring

Turmeric is a relative of ginger. It is a bright yellow spice all the way from ancient Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern food, medicinal and society history.

Aside from using turmeric in yellow mustard or curry (turmeric adds the appetizing color there), it’s time to explore more things to do with it.

A tablespoon of turmeric powder provides nearly a gram of protein, 29 calories, 6 grams of carbohydrates, and 2 grams of fiber. Turmeric powder also contains minerals such as phosphorus, manganese, and potassium. Turmeric also contains nutrients that keep you strong and healthy. There are certainly more health benefits turmeric powder can bring which we sometimes overlook.

Turmeric powder is used as alternative medicine to treat inflammation both inside and out. It is also used for cancer prevention and treatment, as well as treatment of infections and rheumatoid arthritis.

Turmeric has Curcumin which is an anti-inflammatory agent and is currently being researched for cancer prevention and treatment, and has shown potential in animal research and observation.

Also for all weight-watchers out there, turmeric powder can also help in weight loss! Curcumin is one of the main contributors for weight loss from turmeric because it helps in metabolism and digestion. It even protects the body from various conditions such as obesity, by virtue of polyphenol.

In the Western part, turmeric was first used as a fabric dye. In the present time however, we are now studying turmeric for its role and function in prevention, treatment, and management of various cardiovascular and neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, as well as cystic fibrosis.

Have you ever thought about health benefits turmeric powder can bring this way? Now, we know!

Turmeric has brilliant yellow color that tends to permanently stain. Therefore, before using the fresh ones in the kitchen, take out those plastic gloves and cutting board. However, if you do not have the fresh ones, you can go for convenience like most of us and just pick the powder in the spice section of your local grocery store.

To warm your tummy up, nothing is more delicious than an Asian-inspired comfort-food stew or a spicy tagine, roasted-root-veggie soup.

Believe it or not, you can fight inflammation in a fun and interesting way. Try having an anti-inflammatory tea or an anti-inflammatory tea smoothie over those over-the-counter painkillers in the pharmacies.

There are also turmeric leaves which are available in Asian and specialty markets. It can be sprinkled over vegetables or used as an ingredient to steam fish.

But wait, there’s more! (LoL) Turmeric powder also makes a great anti-acne face wash and face cleanser, due to its anti-inflammatory effect.

Therefore, my final verdict on the health benefits turmeric powder can bring is… Passed with flying colors!

  1. Hi Lily,

Great post! My favourite subject too! Turmeric! I happened to heal my body of disease around 5 years ago now and turmeric certainly helped. I now have it in the guise of Golden Paste, which is a mix of turmeric powder cooked over a stove in a pot with filtered water for 5 minutes then you add coconut oil and crushed black peppercorns so it absorbs into the body better. Its a great mix and has an amazing affect on the body.

yes its often overlooked that turmeric can help with weight loss. It has also been studied in regards to depression and Alzheimer’s with great results. 99% of disease is caused by inflammation and turmeric in my opinion is the worlds best anti inflammatory. Thanks for a brilliant post. I hope many get to read and learn from it,

    Cheers,

    Kev

    1. Hi Kev,

Thank you so much! Golden Paste is interesting. I’ll try that out. I usually use ginger as tea for soothing my throat and it magically cured my itchy, dry cough, even faster than over-the-counter medicines! It really works wonders. I looked at your site turmericheals.com and it has many useful info about turmeric. You’re welcome, Kev, more will definitely come!

      Lily
